Siempre La Respuesta Es Amor Y Salsa Picante
Hey yall!!!
Someone's gotta keep me more accountable for these emails, I'm on an every other week trend, and I know yall are just deprived of them:). But just an update on transfers...I'm in my first trio! Still in the Ola area and 5th branch yayyyy! I'm still serving with Hermana Leebert and our new comp is Hermana Fletcher who has been out for almost a year! She was reassigned here because she couldn't get her visa for Perú, but now she's headed to Chile right before the transfer ends! So we only get 5 weeks with her, so not fair because we love her!!! She's already taught me a lot and I know God put her in my life for these next 5 weeks for a reason. Our district is now completely different from the district I first started serving with, I've been in Louisville the longest which is so crazy holy cow. But I already love the new missionaries I get to serve with and I'm so so glad I get to stick around for a little while longer. Louisville's just stuck with me hahaha
So cool story, Id been hoping to go knock the door of this one friend who hasn't been answering messages, and so finally we went and knocked their door and this cute latina lady opens the door with a little boy and a puppy, I immediately fell in love with the puppy. But the lady was smiling at us and acting almost as though she was expecting us, we asked if she knew the guy and she said no, but then we introduced ourselves and she invited us in! We got to read some scriptures with her and teach her about prayer and she seemed to love it! We've already gone back again since then and now her son is a whole lot less shy and sticks stickers on us during the lesson hahaha, I just love them. I love when God shows us how He is so involved in the lives of every one of His children. He knew we needed Dilcia that day, and that she needed us. I love this scripture in Hebrews 13:2 "2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." Don't miss the opportunity to see God work miracles. There are people all around you, opportunities to make someone smile, ease their burdens, remind them that there is good in this world. We don't always see them, but God's angels are constantly working around you, He is so aware of you!
We have a new member, Nacho, who was baptized about a month ago and hasn't been able to come to church in about that same amount of time. We've been really worried about him and messaging him to see how he's doing, and then last Sunday, I was up playing piano for church, and as we sat down for the sacrament I looked up and saw him sitting in the back row, taking the sacrament. Made my heart so happy! After church he was able to receive his temple recommend and we are scheduling a day to go do baptisms!!!
I have this goal that I'm gonna love spicy stuff by the end of my mission, I just wanna be latina or something, call me crazy, so I've been forcing myself to eat spicy things. At the sapons Hermana stokes wanted to play what are the odds and I couldnt say no so we went back and forth until finally I lost and I had to eat the salsa. Yall it was HOT! I couldn't feel my tongue and my face was on fire. I ate like 50 of their cream puffs and eclairs cause they were frozen and I was trying to numb the pain hahaha, and then the tears started flowing and I knew I was in for it. But hey 10/10 would definitely do it again! Also said goodbye to the sapons daughter elayna, she's gonna be an incredible missionary cryyyyy.
Another miracle with Nacho, we had exchanges this week and me and Hermana Leebert stayed and Sister Bayne came to do spanish work. We had a lesson with our friend Abel and Nacho was able to join for a member participating! Abel loves the lessons but we've been trying to see if he just likes listening or if he is willing to act. So we've been working on his testimony of the book of mormon and getting him to read it when he can. We were reading about lehis dream and Sister Bayne asked us to ask him what he thought the fruit represented. I asked him and this whole conversation started and Nacho ended up sharing his whole conversion story and bore such a powerful testimony, the Spirit was so strong!!! Abel seemed so touched and talked about how he's going to try to get to church and read in the Book of Mormon when he can and that God put this in his life for a reason, so he wants to see where it goes. Nacho was exactly what he needed.
We get a service opportunity every week at the local food pantry where we help run orders and translate for spanish speakers, but this week since they were low on people they had us man the desk! It was so much fun! I loved getting to know so many people from different cultures and backgrounds, and getting to sit with the Russian ladies and trying to use Google translate to fill out forms was so fun, we were just laughing and at the end one of them gave me a hug to say thank you which was the sweetest thing ever:). And my favorite lady slipped us some rice Krispy treats, youre the best Kris
Full circle kinda moment! My first week in Kentucky we had general conference and watched pretty much all of it in spanish which gave me a headache lol, but now in my 5th transfer I'm watching it again and even though I don't understand all of it, I get the main points. I still have to focus so hard to get it and eat a bunch of Starbursts, but I didn't fall asleep and I took notes yall should be proud! Saturday our friends weren't able to come so we had a lil watch party with the hermanas:). Me and Hermana Peine dragged the church couches in which ngl was a workout and we got to watch those two sessions in English which was the best. And then Sunday Nacho came and we watched the rest in spanish. Please go back and listen to those talks!!! There is always something God wants to tell us, and general conference has the counsel and comfort we need right now! I know that we have a living prophet upon the earth in OUR day! How amazing is that? He receives revelation for us, we get to hear firsthand what God needs us to hear, but it's our choice to act. Take what you've learned this weekend and let Him teach you and change you for the better! Also shout out to Vancouver friends and family!!! Temple coming your way!!! Still in shock over that!
Talk of the week excluding gc because those were all so good lol, go listen to The Virtue of Kindness by Elder Wirthlin. On our Tuesday at 10 call as a mission President and Sister Mcginn talked about how they wanted to focus less on the things we aren't supposed to say, and more on what to say (dignified language). Our words and thoughts about others should come from love always. We are all struggling, we all fall short, we are all imperfect, we all need the Savior's grace, so just be kind. See the good and be the good, love as He would, because in any situation "the answer is the same. Be kind. Love them."
Este mundo es en necesidad de más cariño, más amor, más del Salvador. Podemos ser Sus ejemplos, Sus discípulos, cada día. Podemos ser los ángeles en las vidas de los demás. Hay siempre oportunidades de ser amables.
I love you all!!! Have the best week!!!
- Hermana Neil
